X-Ray Safety Officer (XSO)

If you are responsible under provincial and federal regulations for the safety of employees exposed to X-rays in the workplace, the Radiation Safety Institute of Canada offers a three-day X-ray Safety Officer (XSO) course.

A dynamic mix of lecture, active discussion, daily assignments and a final exam sets the XSO program apart from any workplace safety course you’ve ever taken. This is supplemented with a training manual which includes copies of all slides and assignments.

XSO Refresher

This refresher course is designed to help employers with industrial or medical X-Ray equipment across Canada to continue satisfying their regulatory obligations.
The regulators, both federal and provincial, expect that a qualified person will be designated as an X-Ray Safety Officer by the employer. The best way to maintain such qualifications is to continue updating existing knowledge. We recommend that a refresher course be taken every 3 years to keep up-to-date with all changes and requirements.

This 5-day premier Certificate Program is designed to prepare participants to successfully assume the Radiation Safety Officer role at a workplace that uses radioactive materials or radiation devices under the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission Regulations.

Applications of Medical Laboratory Tests in Nuclear Medicine: Skeletal and Respiratory Systems

In this quick self study, common pathologies of the skeletal and respiratory systems are discussed as relevant to nuclear medicine technology. Biochemistry of a number medical laboratory tests commonly involved in skeletal and respiratory system pathologies such as ANA and D-Dimer are also discussed. Case studies are presented and highlight the clinical significance of a medical laboratory test result of a test such as ANA and explain how the test result can provide the technologist with rather helpful information positively impacting patient care outcome.

TEMP/TDM

Ce cours répond à une lacune dans les connaissances des technologues qui travaillent ou qui travailleront avec la TEMP/TDM et qui ont besoin d’une meilleure compréhension de son fonctionnement et de ses applications cliniques. Bien qu’il suppose la compréhension de l’imagerie TEMP, ce cours d’autoformation rapide présente un bref rappel et aborde les progrès de la reconstruction par TEMP. L’apprenant sera initié à la théorie de base de la TDM et aux applications cliniques de la TEMP/TDM, afin de lui permettre d’acquérir les connaissances nécessaires à la pratique de l’imagerie hybride TEMP/TDM. Les thèmes abordés comprennent l’acquisition de l’image, la reconstruction, l’assurance de la qualité et les applications cliniques des divers systèmes.

Ce cours d’autoformation rapide est aussi le supplément au programme de certificat en TDM (médecine nucléaire).

Providing Effective Feedback to MRT Students in the Clinical Environment

The relationship between a clinical student and the technologist who works with the student can be either rewarding or very challenging. Technologists are the experts in the practice of medical radiation technology, and in a facility where a student is assigned for a clinical practicum there is an expectation that the technologist will be able to guide the student to entry level competency. Feedback is an essential requirement to maintaining a professional and effective learning relationship between students and technologists. This QSS provides the technologist with information about the importance of feedback when working with students on clinical placements.

Cross Sectional Anatomy: A Multimodality Perspective

Refresh previous cross-sectional anatomy knowledge through exposure to images obtained via different modalities. In addition to computed tomography (CT) and magenetic resonance (MR) images, the learner will also study images from ultrasound and PET/CT.
