The foot and ankle are complex structures with many bones and associated joints. Because of their complex motion and mechanics, the foot and ankle are prone to a variety of injuries and non-traumatic pathologies. These pathologic processes can be difficult to diagnose due to the complexity of the anatomy, but nuclear medicine, with its anatomic and physiologic qualities, frequently adds useful information, and can help guide therapy.
