Learning Objectives:
Liver cancer is a common cancer worldwide and the 5th commonest cause of death, its incidence is increasing due to hepatitis, steatosis and cirrhosis. Treatment is complicated by the presence of underlying chronic disease, social factors, late presentation and there are many disciplines involved. This is one of the cancers where a truly multidisciplinary team is a must, radiology, Hepatobiliary surgery, Hepatology, Interventional Radiology, Medical and Radiation oncology and of course primary care all play a role. One treatment available at the U of A is Selective Internal Radiation Therapy, this involves many aspects of health care and delivery including the disciplines of medical technologists, nursing and administration. This talk will concentrate on the multidisciplinary approach and take a patient through the treatment algorithm.
