Importance of X-ray Fluoroscopy in Orthopedic Surgery

12 Nov 2021

The field of minimally invasive procedures is currently being explored with great enthusiasm by many medical professionals with the aim of reducing the burden of surgery on patients. In the field of orthopedics where physicians often deal with bone injuries, there are many situations where this reduction can be achieved by using X-ray fluoroscopy. However, X-ray fluoroscopy, is a double-edged sword. The invasive nature of radiation exposure affects both the patient and the healthcare provider. When using X-ray fluoroscopy during surgery, there is always the issue of how to obtain the maximum amount of information, while applying the lowest possible radiation exposure. The mobile C-arm has long been an indispensable tool in orthopedic surgery.

• Best Practices when using C-arm Fluoroscopy in Orthopaedics
• Understand what Orthopaedic procedures would benefit with the use of C-arm Fluoroscopy
• Discuss what C-arm Fluoroscopy can offer the Medical Radiology Technologist with regards to intra-operative imaging

CT Contrast Extravasation: Can it be Decreased ? (Recorded Webinar)

CT scans have altered medicine in many ways, resulting in less exploratory surgeries, better pathology diagnosis, and even changes in the way doctors practice medicine. But if CT scans offer several benefits for diagnosis, CT contrast extravasations may carry downsides, from compartment syndrome to tissue necrosis.

In this video, Dr. Ryan K. Lee talks about CT contrast extravasation, its definition and its implications, and provides tips and tricks to decrease it.
