Breast Density: Why It Matters

Breast Density: Why It Matters

Not only has breast density long been known to mask breast cancer on mammography, but breast density is an independent risk factor for the development of breast cancer. To date more than half of U.S. states require women to be provided some level of notification about breast density after their mammograms. The increasing awareness about the importance of breast density is necessitating new conversations between patients and their healthcare providers. This course will educate healthcare professionals about breast density, its associated risks, as well as indications and use of supplemental screening with ultrasound, MRI, and discussion of nuclear medicine methods.
