CT Safety: Dose Reduction & Image Optimization

CT Safety: Dose Reduction & Image Optimization

This course offers the experienced and novice technologist a review and introduction to the factors affecting radiation dose in computed tomography (CT) examinations: dose reduction methods and optimization of image quality. Chapter 1 provides information about the evolution of CT equipment design and dose reduction initiatives and the impact they have on radiation dose reduction and improvements in image quality. Chapter 2 focuses on information regarding radiation dose and biologic risks associated with exposure to ionizing radiation during CT examinations that can be used to educate referring physicians, patients, caregivers, and the public about radiation exposure in CT examinations. Chapter 3 covers dose reduction techniques such as automatic exposure control, tube current modulation, automatic voltage selection, and iterative reconstruction, and examination specific dose reduction techniques in common CT examinations.
