Radiation protection is an essential component in any radiology department. This course reviews basic radiation biology, effects of radiation, and radiation protection principles. Breast and gynecologic imaging, two types of imaging unique to women, are important in that they image some of the most radiosensitive tissues in the human body. This course also reviews dose considerations in regards to breast and gynecologic imaging, as well as imaging the pregnant or potentially pregnant patient and young and adolescent girls.
