Spinal Pathologies for the X-ray Technologist

This course is intended for radiological technologists to review spinal anatomy and pathology on x-rays. Focus will be on the appearance of three major categories of disorders in the spine: congenital, degenerative and pathological. Alternate imaging modalities and post operative changes will be discussed.

At the end of the QSS, you’ll be able to:
– Label parts of the spine
– Compare the uses, benefits and drawbacks of modalities used to image the spine
– Discuss the symptoms and appearance of 3 categories of spinal pathologies:
– Congenital
– Degenerative
– Pathological – trauma, tumours
– Identify and explain spinal surgical treatments and post-operative complications visible on images
